Meeting the Challenge of Challenging Behavior
(4 hours - Can be done in two 2-hour sessions, if desired.)
This workshop is divided into two sections. Part 1 covers ways to arrange and manage the classroom in an effort to prevent unwanted behaviors. Part 2 covers ways to respond to unwanted behaviors that do occur. This section addresses minor, day-to-day behaviors as well as more challenging behaviors. It includes a step-by-step process to follow when dealing with serious/chronic behaviors. Methods include visual cues, choices, cool-down, and planned transitions. Ways to conference with families will be covered.

Circle Time Survival (2 hours)
This workshop prepares teachers to plan and lead a fun and interactive Circle
Time. Methods covered include selecting age-appropriate activities, preparation, use pf props, seating, and timing. Embedding of motor and language skills as well as cross-curricular themes will be included.

All About Centers (2 hours)
This workshop will guide teachers to plan the use of centers in their classrooms. It will cover the following elements: room arrangement/traffic flow, stocking centers, labeling, providing choices, transitions, clean-up time, and rules. Creating "centers" for infants will also be addressed.

Transitions (2 hours)
This workshop will address the many challenges that come with daily routine transitions. Topics covered will include ways to structure the environment, schedules, choices, planning, and making transitions beneficial rather than stressful.

Purposeful Portfolios (2 hours)
This workshop explains the need for and purposes of student portfolios. Topics covered: what to include, what to exclude, play-based teaching, hard copy assessments, skill checklists, anecdotal notes, developmental skills, The Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS), progress reports, conferencing with families, and portfolio organization.
